Mr Robert Atherton, residing in Phoenix, Arizona, has sent to the Common 50
dollars in cash to "comply with the forgetfulness"
10:08 AM - In 1964 an American tourist had taken with the Vespa a fine of one
thousand lire for prohibition of stop in Lerici. Now, after 50 years, Mr Robert
Atherton has paid the infringement to the Common by sending $50 to the office of
municipal police. The american, residing in Phoenix, Arizona, has found the
minutes of the fine and sent the money in cash to "comply with the
forgetfulness". The mayor Caluri on behalf: "An admirable gesture, is an
example".
The mr Atherton from Phoenix has done a bit of accounts: one thousand lire in
1964 would be approximately 18thousand lire in 2014 that converted into euro, is
9.29 . By adding the mora for 50 years and, roughly, leaving about 38 euro,
which converted at current exchange rates are precisely $50. THE vigilant we
could not believe because in fact, this story has the incredible, but the
photocopy of the minutes was there, under their eyes, to bear witness to the
fine high for the stop in ban on the movement the July 1, 1964, Lerici in via
Pier a few steps from the beautiful fortification of the XI century. A report
with the warning: "may proceed in the offering within 15 days". AND if this was
not done would have been "high minutes of offense". Days have passed 18,250 but
the fine was finally paid, and also with the revaluation. The mayor of Lerici,
Marco Caluri on behalf, is left open-mouthed and we wanted to believe, but by
reading the minutes of the fine has discovered that it was signed by his
father-in-law that it was the policeman. The immediate thanks: "Thank you Mr
Atherton in my name and in the name of municipal administration and I shall not
fail to respond to him and thank him personally for his honesty. A gesture
really admirable, and which I hope can be taken for example".
