Unemployment breaks the streak and rises again in August after six months of improvement

The registered unemployed in the old INEM progresses in 8,070 people, up to the 4,427,930
Employment back in 97,582 occupied by the end of contracts in education and health

The number of unemployed registered at the offices of the public employment services (old INEM) stood at the end August in 4,427,930 people, after breaking the streak of the past six months and up in the month in 8,070 unemployed, as has informed this Tuesday the Ministry of Employment and Social Security. Membership, which was improved in the last six months, fell back in 97,582 people, up to 16,649,521 occupied. The change in the trend is explained by the seasonality of month of August, in which conclude many contracts in education and health. In this regard, the Ministry of Employment stresses that with seasonally adjusted data, this is corrected for the calendar effect, the registered unemployment drops in 11,091 people. The side of the occupation, this same analysis shows a drop in the number of students enrolled in the Social Security much more moderate, of only 2,298 affiliates, in line with the recovery of the economy and the activity so far in 2014. Next to the data of registered unemployment, improving employment has also been reflected in the economically active population survey of the second quarter, a statistic that reflects more accurately what is happening in the Spanish labor market. That yes, this recovery has also been in exchange for an increase in the temporary and part-time contracts.

In August, the occupation falls with a great force in education (49,765 workers or a 7.86 % less) and industry (19,769 people or a 1.22 % less), also goes down in the health or a 19,397 (-1.45 %) while the occupation continues to advance in the hospitality (19,790 new affiliates or a 1.74 % more). The cut of the employment in education and health is explained by the termination of temporary contracts whose duration only covers the course and return to recover after the holiday. In comparison with August 2013, the registered unemployment goes back in 270,853 people, the largest year-on-year decrease for a month of August the entire historical series, outlines the department that directs Fatima Gaviã±o. The interannual rate stood at -5.76 %. The occupation also improves and progresses the 1.97 % for the seventh consecutive month in relation to the situation a year ago. This indicates that there are 321,833 people occupied more than in August of 2013, which in turn represents the first step of the whole crisis for this month. With esdos data, the Secretary of State for Social Security, Tom Burgos, has stressed that "for the first time since August of 2006 occurs at the same time a interannual decrease of registered unemployment and an annual increase in the membership". "The result of the affiliation in the last month is the predictable, since the seasonality operates in august strongly in the system regardless of the general economic downturn. This balance therefore allows us to maintain intact the expectations of job creation in the medium term", has added Burgos. In regard to the growing temporality, the contracts of this kind are still gaining ground in August and are growing at 8.3 %, with 1.062 million. For its part, the weight of the undefined minimum mark for the year so far with the 6.43 % or 72,955 contracts, in line with what has happened in recent years. The subscribed to part-time also advancing, a 15% in the case of the undefined and a 8.29 % for the temporary. By communities with regard to the registered unemployment, the number of targeted people to the offices of the old INEM is reduced in eight communities, which include Galicia (-3.340), Castilla y León (-2.699) and the Canary Islands (-1.754). On the contrary, rises in nine, especially in the Valencian Community (7,372 ) and Catalonia (3,385 ). By sector, unemployment low in agriculture with 6,894 unemployed less (-3.12 % ); in Industry rises in 5,780 (1.27 % ); in construction is incremented in 162 (0.03 % ); in Services rises in 15,161 (0.54 % ). Finally, the collective without previous employment is reduced by 6,139 persons (-1.60 % ). From the trade unions UGT and CC.OO have criticized that the balance of the unemployment of August are reinforcing the trend to the rise of part-time employment and seasonality in the Spanish labor market. "They are the routes that is progressing the creation of 'underemployment' ", which, in the opinion of UGT, indicates that "the employment policies of the Government are not failing to create a quality employment". Against this backdrop, stresses that it reinforces the "deterioration" in the quality of employment and less protection for the unemployed. By his side, CC.OO considers that the unemployment data "demonstrated the fragility of the recovery and the heavy reliance of the Spanish economy of tourism activities, seasonal and season". "In spite of the triumphalist speeches of the Government, the reality shows that there is not a structural change in the economy and employment", stresses the Union.
