Europe produces marijuana for industry. It does so in sufficient quantities to
satisfy an important part of their demand (60 %, according to some sources) and
reduce its dependence on other continents. During the past five years, it has
become a silent revolution in the drug trade, to the point of promoting a
European internal market with its flow of imports and exports. The phenomenon
also applies to Spain, where the production at least has increased fivefold, and
the confiscation of plants of cannabis (marijuana) has grown by 532% between
2009 and 2013, according to data from the Ministry of Interior. In the five
provinces most affected have been seized more than 105,000 plants only in 2013.
When a decade ago a expert warned of the future evolution of a European drug,
baptized with the name of eurocannabis. That mention of eurocannabis, which some
have been deleted as a projection a both alarmist, has been consolidated.
Genetic improvement of some types of seeds, the advances in the technology of
the hydroponic crops (landless), the existence of smaller plants capable of
generating between four and six harvests per year with higher quality
productions provide a "competitive advantage" to the indigenous gardens.
Therefore, the cultivation of cannabis has become widespread in Europe, the
production has tripled in five years and affects 26 European countries.
According to Europol, have seized more than seven million plants in 2012.
